I believe in building a working relationship based on trust, respect, active listening, and rapport. A supervisor is a facilitator, teacher, and provides a presence of safety and respect within the supervisor/supervisee relationship. An effective supervisor promotes the supervisee’s growth, sense of competence, and drive for self improvement through the trust, respect, and rapport built over time in the supervisor/supervisee relationship. I was fortunate to have that with my supervisor when I was in training and I’d like to pay it forward to other emerging professionals.
